/dev/sdc2   <--had the Novell Netware file type

"create a mount point
sudo mkdir media/usb-drive

"mount the partion to the mount point
sudo mount /dev/sdc /media/usb-drive

"confirm mount
mount | grep sdc

"enter the drive by specifying the path
cd /media/usb-drive

"when done unmount after leaving the file
sudo umount /media/usb-drive  <-- umount, no unmount...

SD drive:
"identify all disks on the system
sudo lshw -C disk

/dev/sda
/dev/sdb  <-- this was the new drive

"find the SD card drive UUID name
sudo blkid

"create a mount point for the new drive
mkdir /media/< new drive name >

"mount drive to the folder
sudo mount /dev/sdb1 /media/harbor 

"make the drive permanently accessible by updateing the /etc/fstab file
UUID=XXXXXXX-79c0-4935-acaa-XXXXXXXXXX /media/< new drive name >           ext2    defaults        0       2

"ensure user permissions to the new drive
sudo chown -R < user name > /media/< new drive name >
